On 19 October, the netcup community came together for the third community event in Karlsruhe. Under the theme ‘CEO-Edition’, not only Alexander Windbichler and Oliver Werner answered questions from the audience, but other programme highlights also drew over 100 visitors to the event.

First things first: we were absolutely thrilled by the large number of visitors and are delighted that over 100 people made the journey to GoodSpaces Karlsruhe. Many thanks for that!

The best thing about a community event like this? Getting to know lots of new faces, meeting up with old friends and, above all, giving everyone involved the opportunity to talk to each other face to face - there were plenty of occasions for this during the event.

The event started (with a slight delay due to the rush to register) at around 3.00 pm with a warm welcome from our moderator Lars, before netcup CEO Oliver Werner ‘officially’ kicked off the event with an informative review of netcup's growth. Then it was already time for the Q&A session, with Oliver being joined on stage by the second netcup CEO, Alexander Windbichler. They answered 16 questions submitted in advance by the community with a great deal of expertise.

The insights provided took around two hours, but were anything but long-winded, as was already noted in the netcup forum. From an overview of the certification process and upcoming plans for collective invoicing to information on sustainable electricity generation, there was a broad range of topics relevant to the community. Critical comments were also addressed accordingly.

(PS: The Q&A will also be available to watch soon - we will keep you up to date on this).

During the break, it was lovely to see how many of you took the opportunity to catch up with old acquaintances and ‘newcomers’ from the forum in person. Our event specials were also extensively tried out, our bot ‘scribbled on’ one postcard after the other and our surprise, the voucher codes for the Vincent van Bot, also proved to be very popular. After the break, it was time for ‘Techstorming’ with Lars on the topic of AI and its impact on society and technology. This was followed by an intense discussion with some participants before the fast-moving time led to a early end of the discussion to pass the microphone to Denic.

Miro Braun, an official at the central registry for all .de domains, provided information about the tasks of the organisation, organised as a cooperative, and offered exciting insights into the daily business. The presentation was rounded off with a brief overview of the development of DNS architecture from the 1990s to today's DDOS-resistant architecture and a concluding Q&A session.

This was followed by the ‘highlight of the evening’ - to use Lars' words - the joint dinner, which, due to the unexpected number of visitors, was quickly extended with a few family pizzas so that nobody had to go home hungry. We were very happy that so many of you accepted our invitation and enjoyed a relaxed evening with us - after all, we don't often get the opportunity to really catch up with you in person.

Finally, all that remains for us to say is: Thank you very much for coming in such large numbers. We hope you enjoyed the event and had a lot of fun. We would also like to say a big thank you to all of you who gave us feedback - either in person or in the forum. We are really looking forward to seeing you again next year!
